Ditto on what Shane and Walter said. But if you don’t need cross converting, the the Decklink cards are a lot cheaper and good for what it can do. In my mind, since we’re talking $1000 vs $3000 (with KBox), and not tens of thousands, the ability to cross and up convert is worth the extra money for me.

The JVC is very nice – but viewing angle is pretty narrow. $999? Does that come with HD-SDI?
8 Gig is cheap these days. Worth the price!
Caldigit is great! Really phenomenal! I have the HDone 4TB and it’s plug and play with blazing speed even when 90% full. Other vendors may also be great but I’ve had no experience with others.
Good luck!

I also used the HDOne in an uncompressed 1080i online for a few months. It was fantastic, not one issue. I would recommend it.

Check out Caldigit – I used their HDOne box 4TB and it was awesome! No configure plug and play – seamless. A real pleasure to use.

For future references, you can shoot in 24PN mode which will record only 23.98 frames onto the cards. A lot easier to deal with if you want to end up with 23.98fps.

[Shane Ross] “his is 16mm telecined to HDCAM tape. I’ll wager it was telecined at 23.98fps, since the film is 24fps.”
That should be correct. I had this exact workflow years ago from HDCam sources to DVCam downconverts. The DVCam should be 29.97 NDF. Capture into FCP as 29.97 and use Cinema Tools to reverse back to 23.98. Not sure if you need each capture needs to be on 0 and 5th frame cuz I think Cinema Tools will shave the clip to the 0 and 5th frame if it’s not.

Thanks for the link. That’s a pretty cool story. Always good to hear another studio film edited on FCP.

[rene hazekamp] “The guy has a problem and we could help him (and our selfs) more or better by asking questions than by being judgemental. “
Have you read the whole thread? People have been more than polite, cordial,. and helpful with him at the beginning. It was him who started to respond with an attitude and talk crap about people who were trying to help him.
It’s hard to help people who aren’t grateful or respectful for your advice. Maybe you should try a crack at it?

When he said “breaking it up” does he mean subclipping or exporting shorter chunk? If he exported short chunks then it could’ve exported with the filter and that’s why he’s seeing the letterbox.
He has 10 years of NLE experience and he can’t even describe his process in a more detailed report than that? Can’t even use the terms subclip or export to help us help him? And asks about legal action? Anyways, didn’t he telecine to a tape? Just recapture from your tape!
This guys is totally a troll. He’s either a kid or a disgruntled out of work Avid fanboy. No real person is that absurd.
