No FW400? They tried to get rid of FW800 in their FIRST MacBook Pro (which prompted me to buy a Powerbook). FW400 is a standard. ugh.

OK, looks like I’ll be getting a refirb MacBook Pro. Nice and cheap.

You can get a 400 to 800 adapter. I think having only one FW800 is a bigger hit than just the 800 port. Only one FW port is a bummer. And the Macbook doesn’t even have a FW port anymore – just two USB.

They should have stopped the FW400 ports years ago. They never pushed FW800 the way they should so getting rid of it now seems a bit odd, but I guess better late then never. I’m supposing they’re saying since there’s a ExpressCard slot, you can add FW400 if you really need it or better yet go to a eSata.

As far as the screen goes, I’m sure just like with the iPods someone is going to come out with a nice matte-screen protector so I’m not really bummed on that either.

I still think the MacBook Pro is worth the price increase for pro apps compared to the MacBook especially with the ExpressCard slot. That alone opens up a world of possibilities the MacBook can’t touch.

I think the only disappointing thing was the lack of Blu-Ray drives, but as Steve said the licensing is a nightmare. I kinda doubted they’d add it to their laptops without adding it to their desktops first anyway.

    Just IMHO. 🙂

I use the FW 800 port with my g-tech hard drive. Is it possible to daisy chain? Ie capture video through the hard drives 400 port?

No firewire on the MB? sheesh.

Yes, you can daisy chain. I have done it with success. I just don’t recommend it as it doesn’t work for a lot of people.

OK…fine. Express card adapter…I can live with that. But GLOSSY ONLY? Ugh.

[Kevin Monahan] “No 17″ model? WTFIUWT?”

What do you need THAT for? I mean look at the picture on the Apple page. I can see a whopping 8 thumbnails in the Browser window, a nice scrunched up timeline on the right and two really large Viewer and Canvas screens. Isn’t that all you need? 🙂

    Hey guys,

What if I got this for my g-raid hard drive:
    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839200006

Then kept the Firewire 800 port open to capture video?

    Is that the best option?

Also, I was wondering…I have a ton of music (100gb) and had that on my g-raid to listen to (and be my main video capture drive). Sometimes it isn’t as fast in itunes…Is it better to put the music on another drive and use that soley as my music drive and keep the other drive only for video?
