    Hello,

I received a project from an outside edit house to do some further tweaks on. The project has 18 video tracks and 29 audio tracks. I am unable to play back the sequence back real time. It just stutters and pauses, etc. My computer is a fast one, but it just can’t do it.

What are the best ways to fix this?

    Thanks!

What about the hard drive it is stored on? What type of drive do you have? I can do this fine on my setup. And I use an HD One to store my media. Firewire is definately out for this complex of a sequence. That is a LOT of streams of video.

All my media is stored on an external 4GB drobo raid drive. It is hooked up to the tower via FW800. So maybe that is the problem?

Yup…that’s it. DROBOs are for archiving, not to be used as Media drives. They are not fast enough…especially for what you are doing. The way the raid works is contra-indicative for video editing.

    HA…used some big terminology there.

I copied everything from the drobo to my internal 700GB media drive. It’s a little better, but still has a good amount of stuttering. Perhaps this project is just too big for my system? Any other ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

And even with low data rate media to move 18 video + 29 audio layers in RT is not that easy from an internal HD (I think).
