Sascha Haber wrote “Rendered clips also should be used as cache files and as soon as you touch the grading , they would go back to interactive mode.”

You mean import the rendered files and shine though the current timeline until you touch the grade where then the ungraded clip with the current grade becomes active again?
This could be messy and confusing for some…?

What if there was a simple way to reset the VSR rainbow on the timeline thats shows shots have been graded..
You could then open up an old session, reset the rainbow and only newly tweaked shots would then be highlighted.. In the render page you could easily see which ones need re-rendering.

Can you please list your headwater specs including storage and what file format are you playing?

  • In the browse page right click the root folder in the media pool, add two folders 1 left, 1 right, add your media to each. Then right click the root folder again and choose generate stereo edl!

Reel numbers ! If you don’t have any repeating timecodes in your media pool of clips then carry on, if you are working on something much larger you need to consider reel numbers, not just for stereo conforming now but for editorial, color tracing and re-conforming later.
Use the reel numbering filter system that shows a common reel number for each eye per clip. You need to this before you start you project default timelines and or stereo edls.

For example using red, try this /%R*_*_*
From A016_C013_857HX.R3D the above filter will pull
just A016_C013 as the reel number which will be common to both left and right.

Sascha really wants 8.1 and he’s right,
8.1 will allow to import edls as layer. That would sort it!

Chroma light preset should pick it perfectly for you, add chroma back in and adjust with any other setting ( primaries, window, key, clips etc) assuming your background doesn’t have the same luminance value.

Instead of mixing layers, another approach is 3 parallel nodes followed by a key mixing node to blend all 3 back together.

Can you change the timecode of the dpx seq.? As a test..
You should be able to set reel numbers in the header. Could be permission error!
In addition, put your dpx into folders under root in the browse page. Then right click the folder and choose set or filter reel number..

The only reason this would be have like such is if you were parked inside a track nonde dissolve, you can only adjust either side of the transition.

True C-mode with reel numbers doesn’t work properly,
The work around is in the conform page right click on your session and choose “create session with handles” (handles being zero) this will give you a true C-mode sort!

Hands up who would like the C-mode function fixed where the time line sorts first by reel number and then by timecode..

    Me! – that’s 1
