    Hi there,

We’re testing out 3D convergence in DaVinci and found that it works perfectly when the TC and clip lengths match.

I read on the manual that you can simultaneously generate an EDL from 2 folders and manage mismatched timelines, but so far, I haven’t found a workflow online for this.

    What we’re essentially doing is:
    – Under the “Conform” tab in the timeline with the laid out clips…
    – Right click on the timeline
    – Tick “Stereo Left Eye” for the left track
    – Tick “Stereo Right Eye” for the right track
When TCs and lengths aren’t matching, DaVinci asks you to update the inconsistencies. We did that by manually going into each clip and trimming clips to match with the other eye.
This is not bad if you only have a couple of clips to process, but not very effective if you’re looking at about 100-1000 clips or so.

    My question is:
How do we go on about simultaneously generating EDLs from two folders with L & R clips? After which, do we just import this EDL into the timeline and DaVinci matches it up?

    Thanks!

In the browse page right click the root folder in the media pool, add two folders 1 left, 1 right, add your media to each. Then right click the root folder again and choose generate stereo edl!

Reel numbers ! If you don’t have any repeating timecodes in your media pool of clips then carry on, if you are working on something much larger you need to consider reel numbers, not just for stereo conforming now but for editorial, color tracing and re-conforming later.
Use the reel numbering filter system that shows a common reel number for each eye per clip. You need to this before you start you project default timelines and or stereo edls.

For example using red, try this /%R*_*_*
From A016_C013_857HX.R3D the above filter will pull
just A016_C013 as the reel number which will be common to both left and right.

Thank you so much for your reply!

One more question: Does this mean that the left eye and right eye need to have the same reel number in order for the Stereo EDL to work?

I was able to generate a Stereo EDL, but when I bring it in Avid and/or back to DaVinci, it only laid out the first reel (A clips – left). The right track has “B” reel numbers applied to it.

    Cheers
