    Layer styles applied? =P

  • Try keyframing the Linear and Rotational dumping value up when they hit the point you want them to stop. If that doesn’t work, I’ve baked animations before and easied them to a stop with some simple keyframe spacing/deleting.

For the bun you can try to set it to softbody and tinker with the properties or you can use some deformers and fake it out afterwards.

    good luck

I’m unaware of your example but… Have you tried the vibrate tag? Why are you grouping them? Are they inside a cloner or something that you NEED the effector to access/change them?

[Jim Zarbaugh] “how important is it to delete any files that are not seen on screen”

If they aren’t present in your composition or if they are, but their video switchs are off you can leave them there.

[Jim Zarbaugh] “Is it enough to turn them off?”

    yes.

[Jim Zarbaugh] ” Or is it so bad that I even need to trim down my used layers so that they are only as long as necessary?”

This helps a lot. Sometimes AE can’t see that some layers are no longer visible and keeps processing on them.

And I’ll suggest that you’re probably low on RAM and you should DEFINATELY turn multiprocessing off. On a last case, you can save your project and trim it to half/quarter your size and render it in parts (compound effects, cameras and such won’t work though, So you should check it if this is doable).

Mettle’s freeform plugin can help you there. A simple B&W layer can guide the plugin to displace your backplate accordingly. There is a bundled version in some releases of AE (Cs5 and 5.5). For CS6 and above you should go to Mettle’s page

Can you be a little more specific on what can’t you get it right?

For that specific preset you’ll have to change the shape from square to ramp up

Then delete the keyframes on “start”(keep it at 0)

Animate the offset from -100 to 100. Now you can control the “feathering” of the animation by changing the end value alone(without keyframing, 100 being the whole sentence).

Have you tried checking “x-ray” on the basic tab of the attributes panel?

[kirk canada] “I’m not sure how to add the effect to the photoshop layer or how to use the layer as a mask.”

    Which effect?

[kirk canada] “It does show up but as a list of 300 plus masks. How do I group them so that I can add the same affect to all of them at once?”

You can’t group masks. What you can do is set in some effects to use all masks, for example the stroke effect, that I presume is the one you’re using.

Yes the setting is in the caps tab. If you set it right you can get vertices pretty even all around. It will be a lot better if you model it from scratch (you get to avoid triangles on the edges), but that will depend on your skills.

What I was talking about “seeing the mesh” is just changing the Display to show lines.

See the file, maybe it will help.
