sorry, but you bought the wrong Horita box. You were supposed to buy the Horita BSG-50 (about $289), but you bought the cheaper BG-50 (about $219). The BSG-50 is a black generator – the BG-50 generates black once it is provided a composite video signal on it’s input – which you don’t have (unless you have a camera lying around that you can leave on for every edit session). The BG-50 generates 6 black outputs from a non genlocable composite source (like a camera on a studio shoot that you have to lock to).Return it, and get the BSG-50.

a great SATA starter kit is the Firmtek Seritek 2 port host card, 2 bay SATA enclosure, with 2 Seagate or Hitachi SATA drives. This is VERY inexpensive, and will easily to 8 and 10 bit SDI and DVCProHD. Yes, you must stripe the 2 SATA drives together using Apple Disk Utility. I use this configuration all the time with zero problems. You will make back the money on this configuration the first day of billing.

you are obviously in LA, so you have great access to the top video engineers in the country. You are doing SOMETHING WRONG with your system, and I don’t know what it is, but your downconvert should be great. You need to bring in someone to help you with your system. You have the DR Group in LA, one of the best AJA dealers in the country – you should ask for their help. The Kona 3 is a great product, and I would be surprised if Sunset Digital did not own AJA equipment as well.Bob Zelin

If I were you, I would consider a NEW Kona LS (if you want to spend very little money), or a Blackmagic Decklink SD ($295). You can’t base your business on a card from one company that another writes the software for.

this will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER happen, unless Blackmagic is purchased by AVID. AVID has ABSOLUTLELY NO INTEREST in having third party support cards working with Media Composer software. This applies to AJA, Matrox, and everyone else too.
AVID has the new Mojo SDI out now for about $2000 – but it ain’t no Multibridge Extreme !
The ONLY option you have is to use the new Matrox MXO via the DVI port on your MAC, but this would be for output only , and you could never input anything into the AVID other than the firewire port.
Any rumors you are hearing are total nonsense.

I totally agree with Walter- the downconvert looks teriffic, and this is readily seen by looking at it on a multi-scan monitor, like a Sony PVM-20L5/1, where you can instantly switch between the HD signal and the analog NTSC 525 signal, simply by using the Kona control panel.
BUT even if you still think this sucks, every HD VTR has a SD convert output (like the HDW-F500, or the Panasonic AJ-HD1200A), so just make an HD master, and make a SD downconvert out dub to your Digi Beta, or Beta VTR.

NAB was a great show. My only disappointment was not meeting Walter, but it was great to finally meet the Cow team – what sincerely great people.
AJA is proving that they are in this for the long run, and are continuing to provide their customers FREE updates (like cross convert !), as well as in demand products (like the HD10AVA for HDV VTR’s) at very low prices.
What more can I ask for – oh yea, don’t sell AJA !

this is not a criticism, just an observation. I did not see ONE JVC DT-V
series monitor at ANYONE’s booth at NAB other than JVC. I did see LOTS of the Panasonic BT-LH series monitors (both 17 and 26″) but I am not saying that this is a critical color correction monitor.I am anxious to see other peoples opinions.

you are working with DV25, with a DSR-11 and a DV camera. When you start to buy more “stuff” – a pro DV VTR like a DSR-1800 or DSR-45, or HVX-200, or
Sony HD Cam, or even an old Sony Beta camera, and need to use a Beta VTR, then consider AJA equipment – until then, with your native DV25 stuff, just save your money to buy better equipment.We can discuss RAID’s all day long, but you don’t need them right now.
