Deciding if KONA card is what we can use…help
Hi ALL!
current set up
G5 2ghz dual proc, 4gb ram, 2TB of fw HDD no real raid just a bunch of drives, FCP5, SONY DSR11 DVCAM deck, JVC S777 media router, sony 14in broadcast monitor. We currently shoot only DVCAM/miniDV and from time to time have analog video that gets ported in via the JVC S777 thru FW to the FCP.
We have a couple of questions…
1) What will we stand to gain by adding the Kona card
2) Our DVDSP DVD’s from time to time have some compression artifacting and just do not look as crisp as some of the other stuff we have seen. A fellow editor mentioned that he uses the KONA and that it takes his DV signal and imports it into FCP 1:1 uncompressed and up converts from 4:1:1 to 4:2:2 rather than the 5:1 and 4:1:1 of DV. He claims that since it is all uncompressed, his render to MPEG2 for the DVD is much cleaner and yeilds the very crisp results he has on TV. Is this the case? I hate to drop 3K plus for new HW/SW that won’t actually have any benefit.
3) If we get this will we need to get a scsi or fiber channel RAID setup?
4) Will the iO be a better choice and why?
Thanks so much for your input!
Scott
