    Hey Denneye

No sure exactly what you are asking? do you want to creat a “video Archive” on a digibeta of the select footage you used to make your edit?

    OR

are you looking for an edl that will identify all the cuts on your digibeta, but indicate them as coming form one reel ie the digibeta master, as if for color corrections?

if 1, do a search for larry jordan. he has an article on “video archiving” using XML

if 2, i believe its “digital heaven” has an edl tool that takes all your edits and makes em sources, specificall for finding cuts fast when you do color correction.

    hope this helps

    Bob

    Happy tx giving!

AS a fellow ex edit*or, i too was rather excited about all the linking and such that FCP seemed to offer, until i actually started to use it.(maybe its me? maybe i just cant get my head around the FCP media heiarchy?)

its nowhere near as bulletproof as edit’s sub timelines

it is possible for fcp to have multiple versons of things with the same name
why? i do not know (i believe its called a “feature”) this makes it very difficult to keep track of what you are working on.

i can have a nested sequence, which i access by double clicking. but if i drag that nested sequence out of the main sequence to a bin, i now have 2 nest sequences with the same name that are not the same.

also, if i need to lengthen my nest beyond or less than waht it was when i firs made it, it ripples my timeline. (another “feature” no doubt)

what i have found to be the most bullt proof way to do stuff is to export qt
movies (using command e) and import them, then cut them in. kinda like in edit before version 6 and sub timelines.

Lately i have also been round tripping stuff to motion, but that interface is so opposite of fcp, i have only been doing very simple things there

soo in summary command e and import is your friend!

November 22, 2006 at 3:44 pm in reply to: Font On Timecode Reader?

    hi

    thanx for the replys

let me try this again cuz i probably made myself unclear

the timecode reader display, the offline media screens, the leader type screen, for that matter any screen or video page that does not have a font choice is not using helvetica as its font.

its some kind of condensed display font with rounded charachters. in other words, it may be the Ford font, but its not black. its more like paisely

does this mean corrupt pref’s? or does this mean some system font issue? what font is FCP looking for in those above mentioned situations? ie is there a specific font location?

    any help would be good

    hi

make sure the decks firewire out is set for HDV. if its set for downconvert or dv out, FCP will not think its an HDV device, hence the error message

read your manual, but on the m10 its a menu setting called firewire downconvert or something liike that.

if that fails, keep the setting but then restart your computer with the deck attached. it should see it when it boots up.

November 21, 2006 at 4:37 pm in reply to: Problem laying back to tape

    Hey DogPappy

Been here, still dealing with it, wish it would get better

    try these things

assemble or insert works the same AS FAR AS FCP EDIT TO TAPE GOES (we know what the difference is on the tape) so i dont think either mode will affect this bug/issue. waht i have found to work:

    1. do not make your edit points on your sequence ie where you want to pick up the sequence, on cuts, dissolves or other transitions, try marking in and out in the middle of a clip

    2. if you have an outpoint in the edit to tape window, clear it.

    3. if you dont have an outpoint in the edit to tape window, make it the same as your sequence ie enter an outpoint on your edit to tape window

    4. you did not mention the output card you have. if its a Kona, there are 2 or 3 different sony vtr protocols. try different ones

    5. FWIW i think edit to tape is THE MOST important function in the editor! I use it as my “final master” as once i lay down the show, i do not have to worry about files hiccuping, or media going off line, or any of that computer related bs. woulda been nice if apple made it work, but i guess thats waht you get for $1,000.oo (adn itsnt tape supposed to be dead? everyone will make shows to DVD!!!)

cynicism aside, i hope this helps

  • thanx mark

    you said :

One is a a “private” network dedicated to meta data and only goes to the SAN controller. The second network is the “public” network and is connected to the outside world (internet).

that sounds like part of the reason ie you could keep your machine off the “public” network and internet and pc’s, but keep all the apple machines connected at the same time.

November 14, 2006 at 1:11 am in reply to: round trip to “Motion” makes distort in motion?

    hi ned

    thanx!

I just tried that and now the clip comes in fat ie stretched horizontally

i dont know waht this means, but when i open the project properties in Motion, it sez the PAR is 1.19, not 1.20

even when i set it to DV anamorphics, it still comes back into fcp skinny as in 4×3. I have to remove attributes-distort, and then it looks fine.

    thats great walter

if the mythbusters and good eats is any indication of your work, i can see where your “bar” is set pretty high, so i am sure you would not be turning out any bad mediocre or evem good stuff. it would all be rockin!

so why not share with us your workflow? waht cameras, vtrs, and codecs?

    puhleeze???
