Greetings, COW people. I just un-boxed our new Sony HVR-M25U HDV deck and connected it via Firewire to our dual 2.3 GHz G5 system (4 GB RAM), running FCP version 5.1.2 on OS 10.4.8. When I attemp to use the HDV easy setup, I get an error dialog box that reads:

Unable to locate the following external devices:
    HDV (1440 x 1080) 60i

Your system configuartion may have changed, or your deck/camera may be disconnected or turned off. Please check your connections and click “Check Again”‘ or click “Continue to set external device selection to None.

I have trashed the FCP prefs, to no avail. Regular DV makes the trip in and out of the deck flawlessly. I’m confused. I’m sure I’m overlooking something simple.

    hi

make sure the decks firewire out is set for HDV. if its set for downconvert or dv out, FCP will not think its an HDV device, hence the error message

read your manual, but on the m10 its a menu setting called firewire downconvert or something liike that.

if that fails, keep the setting but then restart your computer with the deck attached. it should see it when it boots up.
