    Thanx Michael!

I did not realize that even though FCP locked out the IOLa CP, the settings still count. (you just have to find a way of looking at the signal outside of FCP, which we have)

however, in an effort to resolve the situation and move on, i changed the component in settings from beta to SMPTE and the signal got MUCH better. I guess the M10U puts out a SMPTE YRB signal?

hey but thats why there are standards right?

    thanx again

    Per

did you read the fine print on the DVD recorder? Most all standalone DVD Recorders do not work with computer/nle firewire connections, and usually they say that somewhere in the owners guide. Even when you try and just do a simple “crash record” on the DVD recorder. there must be something in the firewire stream that tells the DVD recorder its Not a camera
I know cuz i have been trying to find a DVD recorder that i could “drive” like a VTR from FCP

DVD recorders want to be “the boss” ie they want to communicate with a dv camera and tell it what to do. Even the Pioneeer LVX 1, which is a thousand dollar machine, does not work well with a computer, unless the computer can be controlled like a VTR (read Avid)

    hope this helps

    2 things

    1. we use a unit called a lite-on. its an off brand but we actully have good results with it, and they are easy to use. unfortunately the disc always has a menu. so you cannot make a straight autoplay

    2. we have a kona lh, and we keep it in component out. we use our beta sp machine as a “component to s video” transcoder to feed the lite on. you may need to do the same, or buy a standalone component to s video converter.

    hope this helps

waht you say is true, but in one particular case i am searching for the phrase CU and i get about 350 clips. but if could limit it to the description field, i would only get about 10

oh well, looks like i’ll have to tell everyone NOT to use the description field for logging, as you cant search it. yet another FCP workaround! s**t!

but think of the money my boss saved!

    thanx apple!

    wow

its just like those old cop shows use to say “if its sounds too good to be true, it probably is”

or was it “..pat you on the back with one hand, and pick your pocket with another”

In LA D5 is the de-facto mastering standard for HD commercials.

Oh good. I thought for a minute there that d5 had died, like m2 or something, and no one told me! 🙂

there is also a newer d5 for sale thats not as cheap, but still cheaper than a 1200 and a lot cheaper than a new d5:

this may seem obviuous, but have you tried “collapsing” the multiclips in the sequences before media management? ie change the multiclips diplay to the single display?

and if so, have you also tried “uncollapsing”?

I found that when editing a multiclip show having the clips collpased or not caused fcp to react differently as far as effects and filters

Please let us here at the forum know what kinda results you get, especially between AE and Compressor, as I (and no doubt others) have a lot of BetaSP “legacy” 4×3 stock to incorporate into 16×9 shows

now granted we are doing DVCPRO50 16×9 for our final output in most all cases, so its not as much upscaling as 720p, but we still have to blow up the stuff to make it fit (no black pillars)

so when you get some results and or time, post em here. Please? OK!
