  • MARKUS! figgers it would take an announcement like this, whether pro or con, to bring you out! hows stateside? everything cor and skittles over there across the pond?

    AFA FCS4 / FCP8 goes, i think this:
it will NOT be a lot different than what we are used to. some of the established tools and such will be retained, some of the stuff that kinda works will work better like nesting and share, and there will be some stuff i cant even speculate on. oh yeah, and no matter what, you will HAVE to buy a new machine to use it!

call it heresy but i am a realist

    Hi

Whenever i try and import Layered PSD’d, they come in as sequences, not stills.
when i double click em, they open in the canvas.

the only way i can use em as images is by dragging em to the timeline

is this what you are seeing?

I have been offline for several days, and only just saw your post.

Chris and I had gone back and forth here a couple of times.

    A genuine tragic death.

He was taken from us way too soon.

My condolences to family, friends, and comrades.

I can tell you from experience that switching stuff around mid project like framerates and such is bound to cause you grief, heartache AND Downtime!

Stay the course, as it were, at 23.97/your current framerate to complete the project. Maybe when you are done and delivered, you can go back and change the elements used in the final film(s) only. Modern post houses can deal with the 23.97/24 stuff easy. but it all needs to be one speed

I am always tempted to go back and fix things in the workflow after the fact, and the few times i have had to it has not been fun, and is time consuming.

    hope this helps

No, but I just uninstalled the AJA Adobe Utilites, and sure as s**t that seems to have fixed it.

Which is really too bad, cuz i liked being able to put my Photoshop Comp up on the big tv! Time to write Aja!

    Thanx David!

    Micheal

    Thanx for reply!

yeah, last night I was L and T a clip, I inadvertantly clicked on the timeline, and BAM the import stopped!

However, even when we leave the machine alone we get incomplete clips

    nice.

    DUH!!!

We have been shooting with a Canon 5D.

The clips for this project are from the Canon 5D I have been using Log and Transfer to transcode to Pro Res, but Log and Transfer keeps quitting, or not completeing the import. I also would like to not have to tie up the editor transcoding clips

One thought was to simply run the clips through compressor, and add the tc later (i think there is some app to do that…havent researched too far yet.)

Sooooo, if there is another path to bring Canon 5D clips into FCP (as pro res or DVCPROHD or whatever) with the clips TC, I would like to try it. if not I will fudge together soemthing else

November 16, 2010 at 3:46 pm in reply to: Frustration with FCP and Canon MOV transcoding

    Hey Alf

I have been pulling my hair out about similar issues. I have a project that three people have worked on prior to my involvement and guess waht? I am dealing with three different codecs in my timelines!

Workflows are relative to the application. the FCP workflow isn’t the same as the Avid workflow etc etc. Workflows are also filled with little foibles i like to call “gotcha’s!” ie for example, the default conversion in Log and Transfer (which I hate) for Canon is Pro Res 4444 and if you dont check that? GOTCHA! you will have Huge files unneccasirly. (sic)

With the medium of text ie this forum, the emotional tone of a post is lost. I guess thats why there are “emoticons”. From my experience no one responding to you was meaning anything like you were interpreting, and belive me I have seen some nasty flying around here! Even though this is an FCP forum, many of us are “platform agnostic” ie we dont care who makes what, as long as it does the job efficiently. Many are the days when I KNOW an Avid would suit me better.

AS for this whole transcoding hub bub? with FCP you have to do it sometime, whether its when you start the job or when you finish is up to the user. Also I am not surprised that the Original estimate from Compressor was some 13 hours. The estimation capacity of most software is pretty lame. you are better off either doing some time tests yourself, or looking for time results on the Internet.

Hope this helps. and as my old bubbe used to say “it could be worse!”
