Alternative to Log and Transfer???
Posted by Bob Flood on November 16, 2010 at 8:31 pmHello Hello!
Been having some issues w log and transfer, like that it doesnt xfer a whole clip.
Is there an alternative 3rd party kinda thing? I am thinking i can use compressor, but i need to keep the TC.
thanx in advance

We have been shooting with a Canon 5D.
The clips for this project are from the Canon 5D I have been using Log and Transfer to transcode to Pro Res, but Log and Transfer keeps quitting, or not completeing the import. I also would like to not have to tie up the editor transcoding clips
One thought was to simply run the clips through compressor, and add the tc later (i think there is some app to do that…havent researched too far yet.)
Sooooo, if there is another path to bring Canon 5D clips into FCP (as pro res or DVCPROHD or whatever) with the clips TC, I would like to try it. if not I will fudge together soemthing else

November 16, 2010 at 10:28 pmMagic Bullet Grinder. Does a good job. Doesn’t bring in time of day code, nor add a reel number, but is fast. Each clip will start at 00;00:00:00.

November 16, 2010 at 10:30 pmBob, a common problem that has been reported here a few times is trying to edit or do other FCP tasks whilst L&T is running. I have had some incomplete file transfers because of this but now, I just batch convert with L&T and leave the computer alone. It is like Log & Capture in that sense. Just because it appears to be background doesn’t mean you should continue editing.

Thanx for reply!
yeah, last night I was L and T a clip, I inadvertantly clicked on the timeline, and BAM the import stopped!
However, even when we leave the machine alone we get incomplete clips
nice.

November 17, 2010 at 12:00 amDo you have other things happening in the background like emails polling or web browsers open and refreshing? Also have you done the usual maintenance (prefs, permissions etc). Once I learned to leave the L&T alone with nothig else happening on the computer, I have not had a single incomplete capture

(if you want to do it afterwards, do read the manual about file names and keeping the THM files!)
