We’ve got a G5 running FCP Pro HD, and would like to install another iMac Pro to pre-capture clips for later use in FCP Pro. I’m considering the AJA Io LA for capturing clips. I wanted to install FCP Express on the iMac, but it only captures DV format, not uncompressed video, and I’d rather not have to buy another copy of FCP Pro just for capturing.

Can anyone recommend alternate capture software which works with the AJA product for capturing uncompressed video to disk?

AJA has VTR Xchange which is for this very purpose. I’m not sure if it works with the Io though, you’ll need to check the AJA website. VTR Xchange was primarily designed for graphics workstations so they could take control of a deck and capture some shots if they needed to.

You can’t log with it I don’t think, but you can capture with it.
