    hi

    my 2 cents:

we only use our big screen for 16×9 stuff. if a client wants to be working in 4×3, we use our sony pvm 19″ good ol fashion CRT TV Monitor. In a way, its kinda like using the medium for the message. (or is that massage?)

also, our 16×9 has a “white screen” mode to clear up burns so i imagine pumping some 98% white into any flat screen would clear up burns

and be really careful with timecode window viewing. the window burns in real easy.

(anyone remember shooting white cards to get rid of burns in plumbicon cameras?)

    funny

i always did them like this, as usually the clients saw the slate during screenings etc.

    client
    ageny
    production company
    title
    code number/episode
    length
    date
    format
    contact info/your name

of course you would edit the info per your needs. ie if its a show there is no agency etc.

almost all networks and some ad agencys have “deliverable requirements” which dictate slate info ie segemnt starts etc, (i remember doing spots for one soap maker, who required all this specific data on the slate AS WELL AS spoken info. it had to be a certain duration, at a certain location on the tape etc etc)

one thing for sure: the money man or woman gets top billing

December 5, 2006 at 5:09 pm in reply to: MAC PRO 8 core processors??

    hi drazen

even though everybody sez buy waht you can now, i’ll give you another reason….

    software

every new hardware release is followed by an immediate software relaese, but usually this release has “issues”, and it can be a couple of months till those issues get resolved

this technology we use and all is flaky enough, why add “public beta” ie initial releases of software to the mix to make your life even harder

if someone told me the 8 core was coming out tomorrow, i still would not even consider it for at least 2 months

    my 3.5 cents

    Jeff

there is a way to lay off media to a videotape (any media to any videotape) ie make a video archive, so that the tc on the tape does not have to match.

Larry Jordan has a methodology that use XML to change your media references from individual sources to a single tape or file.

you lay off all your clips to single tape, do the XML process, and when you need to recapture material you just load one tape.

it may require the purchase of an XML program, but it sounds real slick! and may be the way to go for now (until blu ray becomes viable)

    hopt this helps
