I’m still looking around for the best place to buy it.

    I need a good price
(I’ve seen it listed as low as $ 1,899 at B&H and newegg)

I also need whomever I buy it from to not give me the runaround
if hot pixels show themselves after the burn-in and first year
of operation. It would need to be replaced no questions asked.

    any ideas?

I got mine from B&H, but I can’t return it to there. Burn in and dead pixels are not covered under warranty. Read what the manual suggests about burn in and you should be fine, especially when it comes to what Panasonic calls ‘normal’ mode which is 4:3 pillarbox.

If you get one and need to take it in, you will have to take it in to a local authorized dealer.

Panasonic is also offering a free extended warranty from the normal 1 year to four additional years, plus the $100 rebate.

It’s a sweet deal for an absolutely great display. Hd Content (including the XBOX360) looks totally incredible on it.

Is burn in really an issue anymore?

I’ve heard the 9UK is very burn in resistant though you do want it to be off when its not in use.

Hot pixels not covered under warranty? wonderful.

How many pro facilities out there like showing hot pixels
on their displays to their high end clientele?

    Thats hogwash.
At the very least they should offer a hot pixel warranty you can purchase as an option.

I mean if there was a serious problem, I’m sure it’d be covered. (The manual refers to burn-in as ‘after images’).

BUrn in is better but it can still happen if you leave still images on the screen for long periods of time. Read the manual. The display is absolutely beautiful and you won’t be disappointed, just know what you are getting in to is all and take care of the monitor properly. Really, don’t judge the quality of this monitor before you see it. Seeing is believing.

We just purchased one from here:

    https://www.visualapex.com/plasma/Plasma_details.asp?chPartNumber=TH-50PH9UK&MFR=Panasonic&SE=Google&KW=th50phd9uk

They were one of the first links that came up when I googled them and one of the best deals I found. We ordered on a Monaday night and picked it up locally (in Seattle) on Weds night, saving more than $200 shipping costs. Out the door with tax and a stand was just over 2k.

This display doesn’t appear to have HDMI or DVI or HDSDI inputs.
Did you purchase an additional card that Panasonic sells that allows
you these other inputs? Or are you inputting analog?

A mixture of analog and HDMI. I bought the HDMI card separate and it comes with analog inputs (component, composite, S-Vid, and audio). That’s the nice thing about this plasma, you buy only the inputs you need.

On the East Coast of the U.S. The WH Platts Company. That’s who I purchase all of Panasonic gear from.

In Atlanta, contact David Strupp. davids@whplatts.com

I’ve got the 50″ 8 model and David’s bringing our new 42″ 9 model here on Friday.

If you read the specs side by side with the one with the tuner
and also two sets of HDMI inputs, the TH42PX60U, it looks very
similar to the monitor version, but it’s a few hundred dollars less.
Then when you add the card to do HDMI or HDSDI to the TH-42PH9UK,
the one with the tuner in it is considerably less. I just put the TH42PX60U in a
buddy’s house last month and it’s pretty impressive, off air or
with HDMI in. Do we know the monitor version makes any
different of a picture, or is it the same display, just with the “pro”
    dealers markup attached to it?

I was listing the 42 inch model. Sorry.
But the spec issue is the same.
    The tuner version TH-50PX60U
    and monitor version TH-50PH9UK
look like they have similar specs.

We’re in portland oregon, so i might look into that dealer in seattle.

    I don’t need/want a tuner, speakers or stand, so I’ll stick with the 9UK.

I was thinking about the HD-SDI and HDMI option cards, but decided to just stick with component analog (thats what Walter is using)

Thanks for the link to the owners manual I was just going to hunt that down.

Does the 9uk have a screen saver to prevent burn in?
What would be considered an extended time that would burn in an image?

When you play 4:3 are you stuck with gray pillar boxes or can you change them to black?

    Thanks for all the replies.
