Have a look at Automatic Duck? You want the FCP Importer version.

HDV rendering is SLOW – It’s a big frame.
Some people have reported a speed increase from working in HDDVCPro – FCP supports hardware acceleration for this codec, so you certainly get better RT response, but you’ll need to convert your footage – or capture at HDDVCPro using the component outs on the HDV Deck using an HD capture card, like Blackmagic or Kona.
In FCP, you don’t have to wait for the whole render to finish – you have probably noticed that if you cancel it, FCP keeps the rendered sections it has already done. On long FCP renders, I often stop and save a few times in a big render, in case of power failure or similar. Of course, you can’t do this with compressor. Compressor is slow but thorough – you can export an MPEG-2 from fcp, which may be quicker.

With regard to that other thread – I rest my case. Gotta find a sucka with a G5 Quad desperate to upgrade to a MacPro. Anyone? Good second hand prices paid!

Confused Nick. FCP cannot stretch the picture on your monitor, and you cannot adjust the pixel aspect ratio on the video output. If it was wrong, it would display wrong on your canvas or quicktime output.
Have you checked the Blackmagic setup to see if you’ve got the output set up to letterbox or similar. Haven’t used one for a while, but I seem to remember a fairly comprehensive set of options, such as deinterlacing.
Can you clarify, is the picture on your monitor full-height anamorphic whilst your canvas is 4:3? If you, it’s NOT FCP, and can only be your monitor or SDI card.

Good point – used the calculator to plan purchase of our last array. Probably saved me – oh at least – $40.

Nice dash of colour I thought. Got that whole ‘young George Lucas’ look going on… hot.

Digital Heaven developed Big Time after requests for it in this forum (and elsewhere in all likelihood). All of their plugins/applications sell for WELL below professional plugin/app prices, and they respond to the needs of users. In other words, if people don’t ask for it, they don’t make it.
You want pricey? Buy Sapphire plugins, or Final Cut Pro come to that. And I don’t think either of those is over-priced….
Hrrrmph

Boris don’t claim compatability with 5.1 on their website. Does it work Walter? Always liked the look of this set, but we have two Sapphire licenses to get some value out of… And they now have proper Universal support.

Have you tried opening it in FCP 3?
Alternatively, you may have a corrupt project file. Try another version if you have one. Failing all that, try deleting sections of your timeline to see if you can localise the problem in the timeline. Alternatively, check to see if you have any out of date filters on the clips that are causing a problem. See if removing all filters from the timeline allows you to play it.
