Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy General Error

  • Posted by Jamie2006 on August 22, 2006 at 7:52 pm

I re-started working on a short movie that I was editing on Final Cut Pro 3.0 two years ago. Now I opened the movie file with Final Cut Pro 4.5 but some of the files don’t play on the timeline (but some still do). I can see the video and audio clips (with soundwaves) frame by frame on the viewer when I try playing them, I get a message “general error”. I have tried deleting all the video and audio render files, closed down FCP, restarted my computer and ran FCP rescue too. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause this problem. Thanks a lot!

Have you tried opening it in FCP 3?

Alternatively, you may have a corrupt project file. Try another version if you have one. Failing all that, try deleting sections of your timeline to see if you can localise the problem in the timeline. Alternatively, check to see if you have any out of date filters on the clips that are causing a problem. See if removing all filters from the timeline allows you to play it.

Thanks a lot! You made my day 🙂
The clips that didn’t play, had some filters on audio tracks.
But after removing them, the clips play fine!
    Thanks again!
