You have to set the secondary output to downconvert. You do this in the Kona control panel. The Kona documentation will tell you how to do this.

A lot of people on this forum do this all the time. It’s not that hard, but to tell you how to do it in a forum post is a bit like writing a novella. Besides, the specific information you need is in the tutorials & help files that come with FCP and AE.

You don’t export from the file menu with AE, you use the render queue.
The render queue allows you to use any codec installed on your Mac. DVCPro HD should be listed there.
Consult the AE docs on how to queue a comp and how to find & use the various controls & features of the queue.

You will not see the image play in sync when you hit play, but when you stop they will be in sync. If you grab the play head and scrub through one timeline or the other, they will scrub in sync.

2- Because your client asked you to. There may be an outlet that will be using it in HD, and the client wants to take advantage of that.
3- Because in a couple of years, everything will be HD, anyway.

Try & find a way to design your text & graphics for the center cut. IOW, keep all of the text inside where the 4×3 title safety will be. Keep any infographics & logos inside that area. Things like color mattes, patterns, textures, those can go to the edges to fill out the 16×9 frame.

Won’t work. 30P does not have any pulldown, advanced or not.

Won’t play back smooth. The Teranex needs interlaced video to do a good 30 to 24 conversion. Video shot at 30P is missing some of the temporal information needed, so your video will play with a stutter after it’s converted.
You’re in a bit of a pickle. You might as well try Compressor, since you already have it. If you don’t like the result, try the demo of the Nattress Standards Converter. If you don’t like that, try the demos of ReVisionFX ReTimer or the Foundry’s Furnace.

Are they looking for a Digital Cinema Package? If so you won’t be able to do this in FCP. You would need to use a hardware encoder that makes a DCI compliant JP2k MXF stream with surround sound.
Get your delivery spec and find out if it ask for a DCP or mentions the DCI or a DCM. If that’s the case, you’ll need to find a vendor who can make the delivery package for you.

Yup, that was kind of my point.
BMD recently gave us the sub $1k HD capture card, and has now pushed HD scopes down to around $1500-$2k (including the computer to run it!), so why not take a $100k+ color corrector and drop the price to, say $5k? or would that be to high?
Perhaps they’ll buy Quantel or Avid next?
