  • They should copy the files to 2 separate hard drives. Put one hard drive in a safe place. Pack up the other one for shipping. Mail (or ship) you the package.

  • I’m based in NYC, but my experience has been that these directories have given me zero business.

I’ve stopped all my listings in them after several years of no results.

They were all very sad about how my business would obviously suffer.

I’m very happy not to flush my money down their toilets.

It’s much easier to convert a DPX sequence to ProRes than to get a roll of film scanned. And in a few years, you may not be able to get that roll of film scanned again.

You can always get a dpx sequence into Compressor or After Effects and transcode it into whatever codec you need at that moment. And some editing software will read the dpx sequences as footage without transcoding.

I would work under the assumption that you’re not ever going to have this film transferred or scanned again. Not because you won’t want to, but because in a few years there may not be a shop to do it.

With that in mind, I would try to get the best scan possible now.

[Marc Wielage] “Imagine a scene with five or six people in the frame, and each person is from a different take! It’s gonna happen (if it hasn’t already).”

It has. David Fincher (or, rather, his editors) has become notorious for doing this when he has multiple characters in a shot.

    Try https://www.sounddogs.com/

A quick search shows one in E major and one in D minor.

[andrew smith] “no money for a colorist”

If there’s no money for a colorist, then maybe they shouldn’t expect to get a professional color grade.

If they decide they need a color grade, then maybe they should also decide that they need to pay for one.

If they threaten to go someplace else, then I would wish them luck and let me know if it doesn’t work out. At my original price. Unless their delay makes it a rush, then it’s double.

Why don’t you ask the other editor? Or your client?

  • You should just be able to drag & drop them in the Finder, but if you want, you can also try Carbon Copy Cloner.

[Everest Mokaeff] “please read carefully what I said in this post before questioning me.”

I did. I will repeat my question. Do you know this because you have installed Lion, which is not yet released?

And you know this because you’ve installed Lion, which isn’t releases yet? Or are you just spreading more FUD type rumors?
