You could go to your preferences and set stills length to be 7 frames vs. 180 default. Use this before you import all your stills.

Thanks for the tips. After further investigating, I do have different problems. I see the shimmer in the shirt in the original footage when I zoom in to 200%. It just seems to be more pronounced after keying. One question: did you mean Screen Matte when you referred to the color replacement?

Did you update your firmware?
Did you cycle the power on your IO after it was updated?
Did you repair permissions of your OS after running the update?
Do you have FCP open at the same time your trying to adjust the control panel? Try hiding FCP and clicking anywhere on your desktop. Then try and launch the control panel. Or close FCP all together and try it.
Your download could have been corrupt, as I had this problem on a previous install and had to download again.

January 28, 2006 at 12:32 am in reply to: How long should 9mins take to compress to mpeg2?It should not take that long! I compressed a 25 minute piece in under 30 minutes yesterday. I’m using an older dual 2ghz g5, so yours should smoke through the 9 minute file.
The 2-pass VBR setting is your problem. It just does not work consistantly in Compressor 2. Change your setting to single pass. With only 9 minutes of video, you could max out the encoding at 7.0+ and still have enough room on your DVD.
You could export your QT file out of FCP first, then import that file into compressor and set up your settings….oops just noticed you have tried that…. I have found this to be the most reliable, as exporting directly from FCP does not always save time. It used to work all the time, but now something in Compressor 2 is broken.
The other issue you might have is with QT 7.0.4. Jump over to the Apple discussion QT forum and read up on the problems. Apple has some fixes that might help, but it will probably be a little bit longer before we get a software update that addresses the real problem.

[Chris Babbitt] “Does Apple read this board?”
Probably not. Your best bet is to send them feedback on the apple website:

What is your original source footage?
Be sure to check your encode settings in compressor. I find the field setting can change everytime I load the same preset. One time it will be lower field, the next time progressive.
What are you watching your footage on? A broadcast monitor or just your computer?
