Took around 10 days. Apple sent it via media mail, which is not trackable! If one wanted it faster, you might want to call Apple direct or just go buy an upgrade package with 5.1
BTW, don’t send in your sound loops, Live Type Data disks. In a rush to send it in, I mis-read the instructions page and sent them all in. When my new cross grade came they did not send back the sound loops, Live Type Data dvd’s. They were eventually sent back in the mail 7 days later.

Nahh, just lots of flowing cocktails, tons of prizes and a bunch of great folks laughing it up.
Seriously though, the Apple FCP development team did show up and gave a demo of Shake interaction with FCP, but it did have some issues. But what can you expect with Shake running HD footage on a macbook pro 🙂 Apple set up a couple of P2 camera booths and you could sit down and give a 5 minute testimonial on what you like, dislike, feature requests etc.
The main topic the FCP team talked about, was the integration of XDCAM into a FCP workflow. It is not shipping yet, but you will get a software update from Apple if you are running 5.1 (universal) and then will be able to download free software from Sony in the future.
Seems like Apple is in a transition period and we should not expect much till the new Intel based towers start to ship later in the year.

Not sure if it might do what you need, but you could email them and see if the node based software is something that can manipulate your clips in the way you need.

Having installed XP on my Macbook Pro laptop, I can tell you I had to go get a new copy of XP “With Service Pack 2.” All the older versions of XP I had were pre-SP2. You cannot install XP and then download SP 2 to make this work on bootcamp, or at least that is what the install instructions stated. I have not tried to install an older version of XP and apply SP 2. So either buy a new OEM version for cheap with some ram like I did, or face the possibility of a faulty install.
I installed everything and did all the windows updates and it runs quite well. The switch from XP back to OSX is only a quick 45 second reboot. A few crashes on a few things (but it is Beta software) and need to check if the DVD/CD slot drive is trashing my CD’s. It seems I have an issue there that might require a replacement. Lots of scratches on the CD’s after spinning in the drive for a day.
Otherwise all went well and I like the option of having both OS’s for certain programs I only have on XP.
If you want to read up or post some other questions, I suggest you read the Apple discussion group:

Thanks for the clarification Walter. Stop the postman, I just sent them out for trade up “-)
I should have sent them in last week, as my Macbook pro is now up and running (with XP bootcamp as well). Would have been able to install the universal and tried out the laptop version, but will have to wait a few more days for the discs to return.

It was my understanding that the trade in discs come with both PPC versions and Intel versions on them. If you are using a PPC version it really shouldn’t matter if you upgraded the discs or not. Not flaming you, just trying to understand the upgrade process.

Just wanted to ad my baised comments as well 🙂
Having returned over 5 Lacies to your company due to failing drives, I cannot trust your product in a day to day edit session. Your 500gig drives did have a problem with heat and you have since added fans to them.
On one of the units I returned you swapped it out and the internal drives failed again. When I called you to have it repaired, you said it was out of warranty. You referenced the swapped out drive to the previous owner and I had no more warranty left even though I had the drive less than 6 months. What good is swapping out a drive if you cannot extend the warranty properly. Plus this was supposed to have been a fixed or new drive, not some refurbished old clunker. All you could say was, sorry it is out of warranty there is nothing I can do. That sure does not sound like “we always do our best to fix those problems.”
After that final straw with your drives, I built my own 1.2TB SATA raid and have been editing with it for over a year and a half without a single hic-up!!
When you come to NAB we can go out to the Nellis Firing range and watch what a Holland & Holland 450 Nitro express does when it hits my failed Lacie drives from 30 yards out 🙂 Oh wait, the drive case might need armor piercing rounds as it is so thick and does such a good job in holding in the heat.

You can have both OS on the drive, but you have to decide at boot up which one you want to run. You cannot run them both at the same time. Helped a friend with Bootcamp on his new laptop over the weekend and XP installed with ease. After the install, the switch over time from OSX to XP was just a 1 minute reboot.
