Along the same lines as your beer g4:

I think they might invest the 5K in beer and throw a block party, come back the next month and say he made a mistake and need another 5K for counseling 🙂 Oh a vicious circle.

Maybe he could submit his blown up G4 video to America’s Funniest Video’s and win 10K….hmmmm…just get all his friends in the audience and they could vote him the cash.

  • How much is this client worth to you 🙂

    Spring for a:
    $499 Mac mini
    $150 Isite camera
$50 UPS or Fedex next day air

He can use his PC monitor and USB keyboard and mouse. Then stream your FCP timeline via Ichat.

You could also copy your low rez footage to firewire drives and send it to them with a copy of FCP. Then all you have to do is email the FCP project file and they can follow along with your updates.

Use whalemail to upload your Quicktime previews.
    http://www.whalemail.com
Starts out at $7.95 a month for 100MB uploads.

    Just a couple ideas.

The second link you put in the post trys to download something (maybe a malicious Active X control) to your computer once you hit his web page, so beware!! thankfully I have a firewall and software that prevents websites from auto loading software in the browser. Oh well, one more reason not to upgrade to Tiger for a few more weeks.

If you need to do a bunch of conversions, then the Kona2 is the way to go. If you have all your footage on Panasonic varicam tapes, then just rent the AJHD-1200a deck and import all your footage via firewire directly into FCP without the AJA IO or Kona2. I did this last year just after NAB as the Kona2 was not shipping. I had all my HDCAM tapes dubbed to 1080i60 on Panasonic tapes and rented the deck. I had the entire 30 minute documentary edited on a single firewire drive in DVCPRO HD.

[Curtis Thompson] “what happens when you choose the view source item from either the top menus or the context menu? “

zip..nadda….nothing. I wonder if there is something in the privacy settings that got turned up a notch when IE got updated in SP 2 or one of the windows updates. Very strange. I guess it is Google time.

    Thanks for the reply.

Hop on over to http://www.macgurus.com and read up on building your own SATA array
    https://www.macgurus.com/productpages/sata/satakits.php

I built my own from equipment I saw on their site. The sata card I would buy now, would be the sonnet tempo 8 port external card. ( https://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo-x_esata8.html ) I currently have the 4 port internal and 4 port external card hooked up to a 4 drive Burly box.

    I bought my 4 300 Gig SATA drives from Fry’s for $199 a piece.

If you want major HD footage on your drives and no DVCPRO HD downcoversion, I would look into the 8 drive burly box.

    Hope this helps.

For the Firewire card: try a medea or lacie card. should not matter. Just need to get your drives off the G5 ports and on a card. Why not build a SATA array and move away from the Firewire issue all together?

Buy the IO now!!! Edit like a monkey hard and fast. Make lots of money with the IO, then turn around and pay cash for the Kona2!! But don’t forget, if you want to edit HD without having to downconvert to DVCPRO HD on your G-raid, you will also need a hefty amount of drive space using Fiber Xraid or SATA solutions.

    Hope that helps 🙂
