As mentioned above a Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini or Blackmagic UltraStudio mini 4k would do the job

A used old MacBook with FireWire could work as well.

If quality matters I would prefer the UltraStudio since the Apple FW conversion/codec isn’t the very best.

It simply looks like either the region isn’t wide enough or font size is to big.

Captions /subtitles source files in Resolve normally do not include any font instructions.

How did you export captions from FCPX i.e. which format?

You ca also try the free version of DaVinci Resolve as a converter app: PPro XML -> Resolve, Resolve -> FCP FCPXML

You can use TC In, TC Out, text but I even would go further and say use TC In, Text only.

You probably have to touch each caption anyway, the translator not. Typing timecodes also are known to error prone.

So if you go the simple way TC In, tab, text

I normally do recommend Jubler as well, but often enough translators don’t want to “mess” around with subtitling software.

Otherwise Isa probably wouldn’t have asked here since the translators would have suggested it by their own 😉

Have you tried to use QT Player?

Beside the sound, why don’t you use SRT with this amount of languages. These will always stay in “their language track” above all lanes and keep the connection to the audio/video clip they belong to and easily can be turned on/off. This is way better than in PPro or FCP Classic.

X-FX isn’t working on system versions Mojave and higher.

For an easy check of external plugins and fonts you can use X-Library Check (http://www.spherico.com/filmtools/start.html -> X-Library Check)

Depends on type of project.

But a good start is to use time regions together with “Replace with Gap”

You are right. But PPro uses a “real closed caption track”. So every edit you make – like deleting a clip – has to be done to the CC track upfront.

Using EG titles though will allow a ripple delete, still not that elegant and safe(!) as with FCP.

Should be “Final Cut Pro” – that’s now the official app name 😉

PPro uses a caption stream (track) connected to nothing opposed to FCP which uses independent captions connected to a clip (of whatever type) plus a lane/role.

The only thing you make it somehow comparable – in regards of workflow – is to use “Titles” instead of captions.

Sorry – shame on me. My reply was misleading/misunderstood.

I know that the TKY-Subtitle-Effect always had been free. The “alternative” was meant for “in case Simon won’t update” or so.

While I always support Simon (the Master of Motion Universe) there might be free alternatives.

There is the meanwhile free DH_SubtitleX from Digital Heaven or my TextUp (TextUp 2019 Templates and Effects). For latter you should read about the “tricks” on how to change backgrounds globally here:view a usage guide here

I’ve noticed same behaviour. It’s not happening all the time. Havent’t found the reason why.

Not completely true. Captions & subtitles could be the same in some cases.
Subtitles in most cases describe visual text for spoken words. Captions in common usage includes “audio description”.

Select all titles you want to replace in your timeline.
In the Titles Browser go to the title you want to use and double click.

BUT BE AWARE:
Not all settings are kept. All parameters will be the default ones from the new title.

Open the text with a text editor and insert a blank line where a new title should start. Save as new txt document.
In XTI open the preferences. Set the Default Gap to 0, the Min. Duration and Max. Duration to fit an average duration of a caption like 4 seconds.
