FCPx Preview Window Freezes when capturing from Hi8 tape
Trying to capture Hi8 video tape, but when capturing, Preview window freezes and jitters. The audio is fine, and when I stop the capture and play back, it looks fine.
The camera is a Sony Handycam CCD TRD101. I also tried my Sony VCR EV-C100 with the same result.
My first attempt was with the VCR (Firewire 400), using a firewire 400 to 800 cable. An Apple converter was used to convert the Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2, and also with an Apple converter from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2. The computer is a 27″ iMac 2019. I understand that the Firewire VCR gets it’s power from the Mac, but it won’t power up.
My second attempt involved removing the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 converter, and plugging the Firewire into my old Late 2013 iMac. It does power up and work, but with the FCP Preview window freezing and jittery.
My most recent attempt was with the camera, with the same results as the second attempt.
Thoughts?

Have you tried to use QT Player?

Tried QT Player, but it keeps stopping every few seconds.
