False alarm! I must have pressed the “Finish” button instead of “Send to DVD Architect Studio.” Tried again and it seems OK now. I also realise that it was possible to import the previous mpg file by using the Explorer tab in Architect Studio rather than trying to open the file.

Crossfades refer to the overlapping of two adjacent clips which gives the effect of dissolving one scene into another. I use this a lot for holiday and travel films, as this also seems to depict the passing of time. It is very easy to achieve. In Vegas 5.0 you can enable automatic crossfades by choosing the Automatic Crossfade option from the Options menu. Once this is selected you merely slide the last clip into the previous one and it will overlap and give the crossfade effect. In Vegas 6.0 there is an icon on the toolbar to enable automatic crossfades.

Thanks again for your advice. Incidentally ,you were right, of course, when you stated that my camcorder was damaged by a mis-connection to a firewire port. Apparently this is a very common accident, and many PC firewire sockets will allow a firewire plug in the wrong way round, causing the power line to fry the camcorder firewire board.

I just hope that you put your firewire plug into the PC the right way round. Despite its shape it does go in both ways. I did this and as a result I blew the i-link on my camcorder which is now in for repair! Hope this is not your problem.

I feared as much. Seems a fairly common occurrence. I will get quote for repair but if excessive might be better off to get good used small mini dv camera to use for playback. This would reduce wear on the vx2100 heads. What do you think?

Additional data. I seem to remember that when I previously connected my camcorder to the PC there was a “bong” sound from the PC. This seems to have stopped!

When the capture screen opens look on the Video dialog box at the top. You should highlight the Vidcap option, or otherwise nothing will happen!

It would be great if such software existed but I doubt it. Video clips are at a relatively low resolution and any zoom above 25% will appear very fuzzy. Normally 10% is about the most to be unnoticeable. You can, of course, zoom in a lot more on photos and even make them appear to move with Pan and Crop or motion tracking. I only answered this because no-one else appeared to do so!
