My previous video editing package, Studio 9, had an FX Stabilizer. I read that most editing programs had this but I can’t find one in Vegas Movie Studio. I am probably looking in the wrong place as usual.

Vegas does not have this natively. There are many specialized programs that are designed to do this. You really need to look at the higher quality packages instead of what might be “included” in a lower level NLE.

If you really need something decent that’s free – check out VirtualDub and the image stablization package that works in it.

Thanks again for your advice. Incidentally ,you were right, of course, when you stated that my camcorder was damaged by a mis-connection to a firewire port. Apparently this is a very common accident, and many PC firewire sockets will allow a firewire plug in the wrong way round, causing the power line to fry the camcorder firewire board.
