I’m having a problem capturing video from my camcorder on vegas. I think I’ve checed all the basics. I’ve tried reconnecting the camcorder, etc. Vegas recognizes my camcorder and the counter is working, but nothing is being caputured. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I edited a ten minute minute movie on it a month ago, but now, nothing. I’m sure I’m overlooking something simple. Anyway, if anyone can help I’d be forever greatful. Thanks!

Hope this helps. Surprising how many times I have to reask elementary questions and find I forgot one simple step.

I assume you download using a fire wire 1394 connection to your camcorder. And you set your camcorder on play/edit. and hook up the power source so you don’t run the battery down. And you hear the tone that indicates the connection has been made.

Then with the Sony Vegas Movie Studio software you go to the file menu and click on Capture Video. A box will pop up and ask you to verify or change the name of the tape (it remembers the last one you named). It then offers three options to chose. 1.) Don’t capture, 2.)Capture at the present position of the tape or 3. Capture at the beginning of the tape.

When you finish that you can click on the capture icon (you will find that as you roll your cursor over the set of icons in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

The capture process should begin. Let me know if this helps.

When the capture screen opens look on the Video dialog box at the top. You should highlight the Vidcap option, or otherwise nothing will happen!

Thanks for the speedy reply. I am using a 4to6 pin wire, but, unfortunately I’m not sure if its considered a 1394 connection ( I told you I was a novice) Anyway, I did have it hooked up to a power source and had it on play edit. I chose to start capture at the beginning of the tape, but I was asked two other options:use an external or an internal capturing device. I tried both. Both came up with the same results; a black preview window and no frame numbers shown in the lower right hand box. So…questions:

Does the fact that I can control my camcorder insure that I am using the right wire?

And which would be the right option to use; internal or external capturing device?

Is the capturing device referring to the camcorder, or software?

By the way, I am a first time user of creative cow and really love the concept. I’m passing it on. Thanks a million! –Doinmabest

Thanks for your prompt response. Unfortunately, I can’t see a vidcap dialogue box. I ‘m opening the capture video box in the file menu of Vegas 6.0. Then I’m given two options: use an internal or an external capture device. I tried both, but to no avail. Both give me a black prewiew screen with options pertaining to where I want to start my capturing. Then, nothing. I’m using a 4to6 pin wire to conect my JVC camvorder to my computer. So…what do I do? Could it have anything to do with hard drive space, or the path I’m using? Thanks! –Doinmabest
