Just explain with more detail. It may be something really simple to do in AE, but without clarificvation, your question could mean anything.
Thanks.

This is something I’ve complained about to adobe since 6.0 was released. On larger heavier projects, whether PC or mac, AE just freezes a lot. Can go like that for 2 minutes or even never recover. Save often.
Try hitting the caps lock when that happens. Caps lock disables AE’s image update, so it might save you. Sometimes it works if you get it before AE completely freezes, but usually it’s too late.

Can you explain that further? I’m not sure I understand what the term Professional Gold Moving text means – often if you have a request like this, examples are very helpful.
Thanks.

I’m not sure what you mean, but there is an effect called (Effects > Simulation >) Wave World that when used with the effect called (Effect > Simulation >) Caustics can create nicel looking waves that are more like 3D than displacement.
The caustics effect works with other effects, it’s just that it was originally made for Wave world.
It uses a black and white animated map to displace things but it adds lighiting and some really nice distorion to the mix. Even reflections of a sky if you want it.
Check it out.

What it normally means is that your work are is less than 2 frames. However, I often get this message when My computer has run out of memory, and can’t seem to dump the held RAM.
Save your work.
First try restarting AE. If that doesn’t work, try restarting you computer.

July 8, 2005 at 4:20 am in reply to: what is this method called ?? camera tracking ???? big problem for me help!!!upi can camera match Max’s camera easily, by rendering out of max as an RLA or RPF. I haven’t used max in a while, but there are certain image format options that need to be activated for this to work.
Just looked back at my notes and…
For the most part, when it comes to exporting from 3D Studio Max into After Effects, the only thing you really need to know is this: To create an RLA/RPF file with the camera data in 3D Studio Max, save your rendering in RPF format (RLA works too, but you have less channel options) with the following boxes checked:
– Coverage
– Z Depth
– Alpha Channels
– Other channels as needed
Make sure to get the Camera information (Field of View) in 3DS Max, and write it down for later use in AE.
Consider this: Since 3DS Max can

July 7, 2005 at 2:16 pm in reply to: Audio gets out of sync if RAM PREVIEW not from beginning of comp…Reduce the comp window size to 50% (Keep quality at full – should be OK).
I’ve seen this before. Probably a memory issue. This tends to make the audio sync up in these situations, but it sucks becasue you can’s see it full screen.

YOu can do a lot in AE without using 3D for an effect like this, but if you like your 3D effect’s look, then here goes:
It depends – if you want to animate the motion of the ball, you’ll need to bring your BG footage into your 3D program and then match the motion up there.
Or you could just render the ball stanbding still (but otherwise animating it’s colors and light and rotation).
Either way, when you are done, render it out with an alpha channel (if you can get a straight alpha as opposed to a premultiplied one, that would be great) and bring it into AE.
It comes in transparent in the right places, and then you just drop it on top of your footage. If you planned on doing the motion in AE, make sure to turn on the comps motion blur (and the layer’s too) and then just animate the poition of the energy ball.

The term jack-of-all-trades usually refers to someone who is OK at many things, but not highly skilled in any one particular area.
Anything you show on your reel needs to be good. It’s as simple as that. A lot of animation houses don’t have the budget to hire a large team, so someone that knows how to do many things (well), is more likely to get a job there, than a guy who is the best rotoscope artist in town, but can’t do motion grpahics if his life depended on it. Of course if they are looking for a roto artists, your out of luck.
I’ve read a lot of articles about things not to put in your reel – but ultimately what really matters is that if you do anything, you do it well and differently enough that no one says – “Oh it’s the old lens flare again…”
The reason the article says to avoid space is that when you get down to it, almost every animator has started there. Most of us are sci-fi geeks. The prblem is that space, while cool, isn’t something you see or use everyday – animation houses are more interested in things that look real or that they can use on a daily basis. With the exception of one time, I’ve never been asked to animate space in all the time I’ve been doing this – would be fun though.
A lot of people can make space ship orbiting a planet, but very few people can set up a shot of a kitchen table with a tea set that looks really real, or a person walking that doesn’t look robotic. make sense?
So ultimately, make your reel interesting, get the content to be diverse enough that you’re not watching the same thing over and over, and make sure the quality of what your showing is good enough – don’t get too attached to anything just because you made it.
If you have several logo treatments, 3D shots, live action shots, cartoon scenes…etc. You may want to group them so there’s some flow between the reel.
Also, keep it under 2.5 minutes at the max. No joke. End with a bang (not literally, save a good piece for end too, just not your best.
*whew*
