What it normally means is that your work are is less than 2 frames. However, I often get this message when My computer has run out of memory, and can’t seem to dump the held RAM.

    Save your work.

First try restarting AE. If that doesn’t work, try restarting you computer.

I’m getting the same error “After effects error: ram preview needs 2 or more frames to playback”
Happens when I’m using the “Zaxwerks 3D flag”. After about 4/5 previews the msg pops up.
I save my work, restart, and open the program up again. After about 4/5 previews the msg comes up again.
    Why is it doing this..?
Anyone know how to fix this prob.. TIA

usually that requires a restart of AE or your computer, but you can try:

Edit > Purge > Image cache

And then if that doesn’t work, try:

    Edit > Purge > All

    You’ll lose your undo’s though.
