  • I found that the “format” (found in the Output module settings) that work really well is “MPEG2-DVD” – it’s in the same place as where you choose, AVI, Quicktime Movie, Targa Sequence…etc). You’ll have to play with the format options to balance out size vs. image quality, but it works pretty well.

It renders in a format called M2V – Encore has no trouble reading this – it goes right in. However, the audio files it generates (seperately)cause problems for encore. So I just re-export the audio as an AVI (No video, just audio) and import that seperately.

    Hope that helps.

That’s really strange. It should not do that. Have you checked the adobe site for info?

One thing comes to mind though – are you using any layer effects (drop shadows…etc.) AE sometimes does some wierd stuff since some of those layer stayles arent compatible with AE.

You can either make an image that’s black and white, so that the black parts are transparent, or you can make an image that’s in color, but with an alpha channel – so that the BG is automatically cut out.

In the help files (Help > Help Topics), Tutorial #3 under the section “Change Shape Page” and the subheadings: “Shape size options,” “Shape Type options” and “Transparency options explain how to import the shape and deal with the different options very clearly. It’s not a big read, and should be easy to understand. Take a look at that, and if you still have trouble let me know, and I’ll be glad to assist you further.

You can also get 3D camera information (Plus a bunch of other hidden 3D channels) from 3DS Max’s RLA/RPF image format output (Provided you set up your render prperly).

However, this is only available in AE Pro.

Just a thought. You could make your nested comp bigger. THat way the shards have room to go out further. I don;t have AE in front of me where I am but give it a shot.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, which is why it’s not out in the open. Using that setting has negative effects. For example, any effect that relies on previosu frames take a lot longer to render – Effects like motion blur and echo time are only 2 examples. Since previous frames are chucked, you have to recalculate for them.

  • You can always draw the shape in illustrator and cut it and paste it into AE as a mask.
