    Nice tutorial. You can also add the “Wave Warp” effect with “smooth noise” selected as the wave type to add a sort of waviness to the image like the interference that is often seen over broadcast television. You can also animate the vertical value of the “Offset” effect to make the picture roll up and down like on some older tvs.

    thanks great tutorial..
    I just spent several days doing the same thing without any help !!
    I loved the elegant way of createing the tv screen shape mask, very neat, i spent hours drawing a mask just so (DOH!)

    You can always draw the shape in illustrator and cut it and paste it into AE as a mask.

    I’m using After Effects CS4 and I tried doing this. I got to the part where you make the shape of the TV screen with the mask going from a square to a circle. I got nothing like that. I rotated it and I got something that was half the original size in the middle and a really odd shape. I didn’t rotate it and it’s not quite the right shape. Any ideas on what else I should try?
