    hi all at cow

this is one of my doubt taht has been disturbing me for quite a long time…
so i thought of asking it in my favourite forum. the cowwwwwwwwwwwww…

i hav modelled a statue in 3d max .. i made a helix and gave this helix as the path for the camera.. now the animation is such that the camera moves in a helical path around the statue ….
i didnt give any background in 3d max…

i rendered the file as tga with alpha.. so when i import it in after effects,i hav the statue alone .. no probs….i want tat only…

suppose i made a backdrop in after effects and put it as the background for the statue sequence.. i get a flat 2d backdrop for the file

what i want is tat the background should respond to the movements of camera in 3d max..
i want a 3d environment in after effects.. is this technique called camera tracking ,,,

i hav to make the bg to match the camera movements.. in my example .. as it is a helical path, at both times when the camera is in front and in back of the statue ,, the backdrop is just the same ,.. no 3d feeling

    i think u got wat i said
how can i achieve this in after effects

i can mail or upload the files if u need ,,,,

    plz help me

i wnna complete this proj soooooooon

thanx a lot /// in advance

I highly suggest doing the BG in Max projected on the inside of a sphere. But if you HAVE to do it in AE, I heard there is a free plug in called MaxtoAE or something of the sort. I’m not familiar with Max, but I saw someone give the advice to use that exporter plug-in. It will allow you to give camera data to AE.

If nothing else, see if Max can export a Maya .ma file and import that into AE.

    1) If you can do it all in MAX that would be good.

    2) Max2AE from http://www.boomerlabs.com is definately not free. Although worth every penny!

    3) Max will not read nor write maya files.

upi can camera match Max’s camera easily, by rendering out of max as an RLA or RPF. I haven’t used max in a while, but there are certain image format options that need to be activated for this to work.

Just looked back at my notes and…

For the most part, when it comes to exporting from 3D Studio Max into After Effects, the only thing you really need to know is this: To create an RLA/RPF file with the camera data in 3D Studio Max, save your rendering in RPF format (RLA works too, but you have less channel options) with the following boxes checked:

    – Coverage

    – Z Depth

    – Alpha Channels

    – Other channels as needed

Make sure to get the Camera information (Field of View) in 3DS Max, and write it down for later use in AE.

Consider this: Since 3DS Max can
