Wave effect
Mic Pool
July 10, 2005 at 12:25 amI want to find an After Effects plug in that is as close as possible to the dmwaves xtra for Macromedia director. i.e one that simulates waves by modulating the distance between rows of pixels in an image rather than the standard after effects waves which distort the whole picture in the shape of a sine wave.
Thanks

July 10, 2005 at 2:28 pmI’m not sure what you mean, but there is an effect called (Effects > Simulation >) Wave World that when used with the effect called (Effect > Simulation >) Caustics can create nicel looking waves that are more like 3D than displacement.
The caustics effect works with other effects, it’s just that it was originally made for Wave world.
It uses a black and white animated map to displace things but it adds lighiting and some really nice distorion to the mix. Even reflections of a sky if you want it.
Check it out.
