It would help if you could post a pic of the unsmoothed wireframe–with the polys selected where you want to put the band.
You can get a spline from edges by selecting them and running Structure>Edit Spline>Edge to Spline.

I would consider using bones or one of the path deformer plugins.

[Chris Smith] “2. I learned in a previous post that C4D doesn’t have a simple function to center the objects axis, but that I would need a plug-in. Is there another way to center the objects axis that is simple, like resetting some parameters to zero? When I create stuff with ‘current state to object’ or other groups of geometry, my object axis can be all over the place. There has got to be some simple way to center it up, is there not without a plug-in? “
What’s your objection to using the plugin? It’s free, available on the goodies CD, and if it makes you feel better, it was coded by a guy who’s done a lot of programming for Maxon (same author as Fizz). 🙂

[Chris Smith] “3. In Maya it was common to do the ol’ “Path animation” followed by a “path flow object” so that things travelled along a spline and deformed with it using a travelling lattice. Travelling along the spline is obvious, using the tag. But what about a travelling lattice or “FFT” that travels as well that deforms an object? IS there a simple way like Maya’s “Path Flow Object” or do I have to get an FFT to travel with a spline somehow deform itself in some fashion? I heard someone using a plug-in but I would think this would be internal option 101. What am I missing? “
There are at least two plugins that make this much easier. One is RenatoT’s Path Deformer (www.tarabella.it/c4d) and the other is Multiple Spline Attach [MSA]: https://www.xlentplugs.com/I’ve used MSA for years and it’s great for this and a bunch of other tasks as well. I don’t have Path Deformer but I’ve read a lot of enthustiastic reports by users.

It’s been a long time since I used v6, but I think you should have a “volumetric” option in your light settings? You’ll be wanting that and you’ll probably want to play with the noise settings as well.

April 29, 2005 at 3:38 am in reply to: How to change the position of the ‘anchor’ of an object[Chris Smith] “The plug-in Axis center. Does that reset the object axis to the dead center of the bounding box? Like Maya’s ‘Center pivot’ command? I wonder why this wouldn’t be standard as part of the app itself.”
Yes, it does, but it has a lot of other functions too. Why isn’t it in the core app? That’s a mystery for the ages. 🙂

April 27, 2005 at 2:15 pm in reply to: How to change the position of the ‘anchor’ of an objectIf you have R9 you should have a plugin called “Axis Center” on your goodies CD: highly recommended for precise axis alignment. If you don’t have R9 I think you can download the plugin from Maxon’s site.

AFAIK it should run fine on XP. What are the rest of your system’s specs (cpu, ram, graphics card, HD)?
XL6 was the original release. I’m not sure what CE+ is. Maxon has released a couple of subsequent versions of R6, one with a 640×480 output limit and another without that limitation, but I don’t know what else.

April 26, 2005 at 2:18 pm in reply to: Possible to make FBX plugin for Cinema xl 6?Even if it was possible I think it would be one he*l of a lot of work if you would attempt to add animation support. The FBX format is quite complex, and it’s based on joint-based bones, which Cinema doesn’t use. Upgrade to 8.5 if possible. 🙂
