Making a cube editable never broke it up into separate faces. It just makes it a polygonal cube. If you want to split it up into faces you have to use the functions>disconnect/explode segments or functions>split commands.

Sorry, r10 files aren’t backward compatible. I’ll try to do an r9 version tomorrow.

As far as putting a tex across multiple objects, you could place all the cubes under a null, put the material on the null, and set the texture tag to camera mapping projection.

You can then bake the texture (use “render>bake object” on the null) If you want the texture to stay in place as the cubes are animated.

Unfortunately camera mapping projects the texture all the way through the object, so you’ll have the same issue with respect to using separate tex on each side of the cubes. That’s where the file I posted (and will repost) should come in handy.

All’s you would have to do is unwrap the cube and apply the textures to the appropriate UV regions. Then it would map accordingly. Or map it with poly selections and duplicate the cube with copy/paste or the built-in duplicate function.

Of, for something as simple as a cube you could use the layer shader with falloffs as layer masks. Here’s an example (r10 file): https://www.3danvil.com/temp/colored_cube.c4d

    Hey, great news! Congrats Arndt!

Sadly his publisher didn’t see fit to translate several intervening books into English–a great loss for us. In my opionion Arndt’s “Maxon Cinema 4D 7” was the best English-language book ever written for Cinema. I’m sure that’s going to change now. 🙂

Put a compositing tag on the floor and check the “compositing background” box.

You can also use a rail spline to control banking. Or you can use deformers by putting the sweepNURBS under a null together with whatever deformers you want to use.

    [Michael Goldberg] “Hi Adam,
I just rendered something in V10 with DOF, and had the same problem with and alpha channel. Have you done something different to avoid this issue?

    Mike”

Agh, you’re right! :/ It’d been so long since I even tried using Cinema’s dof filter that I forgot what the problem was. I was thinking it didn’t render dof at all behind transparency, when in fact it just renders it but based on the distance of the transparent polygons rather than the object(s) behind. Sorry for the misinformation.

I was just about to post that it hasn’t been addressed in R10, but then I checked and in fact it *has*!

It’s not possible with the explosion deformer directly, as it just blows up polygons, but you could might be able to use it in conjunction with Thinking Particles by placing the particles on the polys. The easiest way to do it would be with the MoGraph module.

I believe the manual has some examples.
