  • Rendering DoP behind alpha’s and objects

Posted by Dale Jackson on December 11, 2006 at 5:46 pm

I have a big problem that I am encountering with my Cinema 4D XL 9.1.

I cannot render depth of field behind transparent or semi-transparent objects or behind alphas. I saw in another post that this is a bug of the default DoP filter in C4D 9.

Does anyone know if this has been resolved in the new C4D 10?

    Thanks

I was just about to post that it hasn’t been addressed in R10, but then I checked and in fact it *has*!

    Hi Adam,
I just rendered something in V10 with DOF, and had the same problem with and alpha channel. Have you done something different to avoid this issue?

Agh, you’re right! :/ It’d been so long since I even tried using Cinema’s dof filter that I forgot what the problem was. I was thinking it didn’t render dof at all behind transparency, when in fact it just renders it but based on the distance of the transparent polygons rather than the object(s) behind. Sorry for the misinformation.

No problem. This is something I do all the time, with virtual sets, and I was really hoping they might have a solution by now….Oh well

There are a couple of plugins that resolve the issue if you’re inclined to buy plugins.

    One is ZBlur: https://3dattack.net/shop/index.php?plugin=5

    The other is C4denDOFin: https://www.blackstar-solutions.de/en_c4dendofin.php
