I have a 17″ i7 – works really well with FCS. It replaced an old 17″ Core duo 2.16 model which also worked well with FCS.

Stick with the 17″ models as they are the only ones to include an expresscard slot – very useful for adding esata / firewire, etc. You will also find he new i7 don’t have a native FW400 port, so will need either an adapter or an expresscard with FW400 if you need to use older kit with it.

Max out your ram as well.

Its a great machine that i use to edit broadcast commercials whilst on the road!

January 5, 2011 at 9:10 am in reply to: Yellow turns Orange (Chroma Key problem)

Yellow is comprised mainly of Red and Green in an RGB world, so removing the green from your image by keying will cause the problem you see.

What you will need to do is to mask the area you don’t want to remove the green from. How tight the mask needs to be depends on how close the yellow is to the stuff you want removing. If one is in front of the other, then you will need to rotoscope your mask. yet if the two don’t intersect, then a looser mask will probably suffice.

Its always worth being aware of the colours in a shot that you want to keep before you decide which colour to use for the chromakey….if you have a lot of yellow in front of the green screen, then you will have problems, and should have opted for a blue screen, as there is very little blue used in the yellow colour.

looking at your screen grab – the image on FCP has not been rendered yet. Try render that first and see if things improve!

if your mac is a laptop, and has an expresscard slot, then you could buy a firewire express card to solve your problem.

i think videocopilot have an AE plug-in called Twitch – that does this kind of effect. I also think Andrew Kramer did a tutorial showing how to get a very similar look.
