The next macoperating system WILL have a feature called time machine that you can use to get old files, etc. However you will need a second hard drive to use it as it will need a place to make a archive of everything.

I assume you mean the JVC HR-DVS3u

are you trying to capture from it or record to it from FCP you did not say

are you trying to capture from the mini-dv part or from the vhs part

a quick google search brought up amazon and it has several bad user reviews for the JVC HR-DVS3u I cannot say because I have never used that model

What are your current export setings.

when you export select the box that says use current settings, if your current footage is not uncompressed then exporting a uncompressed video is not going to add anything to the image.

Most editors don’t use wipes, transitions etc vaey often, as far as text a lot op FCP editors use the boris plug in, many also create there text in photoshop.

In asking the question here on the FCP forum “what is the best video editing software between Final Cut Pro, Avid Express Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro” most people will say FCP.

With out knowing exactly what you are trying to accomplish it is had to make any recomendations.

Use the same settings it was shot with for capture and your sequence, the sony FX1 shoots 1080i60 so pick that from the easy setups and you will be fine.

You wont have to render much at all unless you are changing speed, adding filters etc, however once you are done and want to export you will need to conform.

The fist thing to do is go read the article in the last issue of Creative Cow Magazine about HDV, its a free magazine and when you subscribe to it it will let you download a PDF of the last issue.

I wish that the cow would just permanently post that article about HDV it is so useful.

Choose from the list of easy setups the type of footage that you shot (if you shot DV NTSC Anamorphic choose DV NTSC Anamorphic, if you shot HDV 1080i60 choose to 1080i60 etc)

Then do your edit, and export using compressor.

When you get to DVD SP bring in your assets add them to tracks and in the track properties select 16:9

what type of drive did you put into the computer, it may not support all types of media
