December 28, 2006 at 5:06 amI assume you mean JVC. An S-VHS/DV combo deck.
These combo JVC decks are notoriously poor choices and virtually incompatible for working with FW editors like FCP.
Better to just use ANY DV camcorder instead. Even a used home video camcorder will work perfectly for FCP…
but NOT these JVC clunkers.Others report that they can get SOME of them to work SOME of the time.
Sorry, but that’s not good enough. -

December 28, 2006 at 5:13 amMore info is neede from you
what verson of final cut pro are you using
I assume you mean the JVC HR-DVS3u
are you trying to capture from it or record to it from FCP you did not say
are you trying to capture from the mini-dv part or from the vhs part
a quick google search brought up amazon and it has several bad user reviews for the JVC HR-DVS3u I cannot say because I have never used that model
With more info we might be able to help you.

December 28, 2006 at 8:15 amYou could try “FireWire Basic” as a control protocol. But these decks are crap, as others have mentioned, we have already replaced three of them with Sony DSR-11s in our labs…
