Export at full quality (File > Export > QuickTime Movie), then take that to Compressor to compress further.

Hi Sam,
The receiver I’m using is an old Yamaha R-30 (https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160420470321) with Denon speakers. The Denons seem to be decent, not sure about the receiver, but despite being old it seems to do a decent job.

Believe me, I don’t take stock in “gold plated” connectors, etc., I just generally prefer XLR if it’s not much more expensive. They’re just more durable connectors.

Thanks, Richard. I’m in a small home studio (editing video, but of course I want good sound if I can get it).
The Behringer you mentioned (and most other devices I can find) output to RCA. Is there anything that outputs higher quality, i.e. 1/4″ or something? Or should I not be concerned with that at such short distances? I’ll be feeding the output to a small mixer, then RCA to a receiver, which goes to my speakers.

Also, it won’t accept certain layers as sources for the grain; if I try it on another clip and tell it to use that layer it works, but not on the clip I need it to. Any thoughts?

As is the case with a lot of things 🙂 The bottom line is, the average desktop turnaround is 3-5 years. Do you see yourself adding internal drives, changing the graphics card, or interfacing with SAS/eSATA/HD-SDI devices before then? And are you willing to pay the premium for that future-proofing?

All true, Shane, but from reading her post, I don’t know that she’s going to be using SAS RAIDS and HD-SDI monitors. For simple cutting and simple graphics work, an iMac can save a lot of money over the baseline Mac Pro and still get the job done (especially if she sticks with the DVX).
