    Try the Card Wipe effect, with these settings

    Flip Axis = y
    Flip order = top left to bottom right
    Back layer : select a second layer of your comp for the back layer (probably a non-visible layer)

    keyframe Transition Completion from 0 to 100%

    Experiment with Timing Randomness and Transition Width, and other parameters.

    Had this problem once, didn’t know how it happened, or how I stumbled upon the solution…

    In the Info window, click in the RGBA area. Each time you click, it will change the way the range of values is evaluated and displayed (0.000 to 1.000, 0 to 100%, 0 to 255, etc ). When you get to setting that you prefer to work with, just leave it alone and when you go back to the color picker, RGB values should display as desired.

    The “x” key will adjust the timeline view so that the selected layer is at the top of the view (doesn’t reorder anything, just adjusts the view)

    Grid and rulers may be useful.

    View -> Show Rulers
    View -> Show Grid
    View -> Show Guides

    Also with rulers visible, you can create Guides to use as reference. Click/drag from one of the rulers to set a guide.

    Set grid size in Edit -> Preferences -> Grids and guides.

    And of course Window -> Info will show the pixel location of your cursor.

    I like Digital Anarchy’s Path Distort for 2d bending. It’s not the speediest effect, but still very useful.

    One way to help organize multiple comps in the Timeline window is to create new Timeline windows for some of the comps that you want to group together. Just drag the comp’s tab to a blank spot in the main window. Then drag more comps into that window if you want.
