Does anyone know how to animate the process of transitioning a grid from one image to another without setting it up manually? I’ would have thought the answer was using card wipe or card dance, but after an afternoon of frustration, I’m not sure either of those plugins can do what I’m after.
You’ve all seen the popular technique used in car ads of an image on a grid (say 6 rows by 8 columns) that wipes from left to right with every square on the grid rotating on the Y axis only. I can get all the squares in a column to rotate at the same time, and get the columns to rotate sequencially from left to but I can’t delay the timing of the individual squares in each column so that it appears every square is turning individually. Is there a plugin out there I’m missing? Or is there a solution using expressions on a grid of images I set up individually? My client is looking for this technique, which is part of a project that’s due next month, so I have some time to set it up by hand. But I’d sure appreciate hearing from somebody who knows a shortcut.

Try the Card Wipe effect, with these settings

    Flip Axis = y
Flip order = top left to bottom right
Back layer : select a second layer of your comp for the back layer (probably a non-visible layer)

keyframe Transition Completion from 0 to 100%

Experiment with Timing Randomness and Transition Width, and other parameters.
