We were told by our local rep that it was May 15, but yeah it seems like people who have actually ordered are getting the end of the month as a ship date. Thinksecret (for what their worth) reports it’s suppose to also be in stores May 15th.

I think you’re stuck if you have a PowerMac G5 that uses the AGP graphic slot. Two of the best cards, ATI’s 9800 Pro and X800, are nearly impossible to find (Mac Sales lists both with a 27 day wait for shipment and that wait never seems to change). The 9600 Pro seems readily available, but it’s not nearly as good as the two cards above. You can always check eBay and see what’s there.

Sounds like with your X850 XT you have as good as you’re going to get with the AGP-based PowerMacs. We tried to buy one of those and there’s really nothing left on the market. It’s virtually impossible to find a new 9800 PRO as well. Unfortunately it sounds like the only answer to get a video card good enough to work with Color is to upgrade to the newer Mac Pro lines and get at the PCI-Express cards.

There is always a lag when viewing video through the firewire. To sync up your audio to your video you should be listening through speakers plugged in to your deck/camera.

Are you making this change to the actual clip in the timeline?

You have to change the animation style to Roll. It’s in the Controls tab.

I believe you can only run FCP 5.1 on your MacBook Pro due to it being an Intel processor. Versions prior to 5.1 are Power PC only.

I may be reading you wrong, but with 5.1.2 you get live scopes now during playback without the need for any filters.

A note about your external drive falling asleep – you will want to set your computer to NEVER go to sleep in your Energy Settings. I have found this is the only way to keep external drives from falling asleep.
