It was the card. Got hold of a Radeon 9700 Pro and now Final Cut Pro 6 launches fine. In the end you can’t use a 9000 Pro.

I have a G4 Dual 1.42 Ghz with a Radeon 9000 Pro. After spending 2 days on the phone with Apple and running all kinds of test with clean installs of system etc. Final Cut Pro 6 cannot run with this video card. Compressor, DVDSP and Livetype can. Also, obviously Motion and Color cannot.

This was added as of 10.4.9 to prevent accidental ejecting. Also if you hold the control eject keys this brings up the sleep, resart shutdown dialogue but you must hold the keys longer to get the dialogue box.
This is a feature. Not a system problem.

I know this won’t help you now, but having done test comparisons between Squeeze and Episode Pro, Episode Pro does a much better job of compressing and usually gives you smaller files sizes. When I say better job, they usually look cleaner and closer to the original. Episode Pro also have more compression options.
This is just my observation. I don’t have any affiliation with either manufacturer.

I have this same problem on my Dual 1.42 G4. If you use the mouse or click buttons you hear interference from the Mac. Never could solve this.

So far no problems with 5.1.4. Cutting a film in DVCPROHD 1080/24 and all good here.

Can you open it in illustrator. Save it as an EPS and then save to any other format you need?

Digital Rebel or any digital Canon SLR will do this. They make a intervelometer shutter release cable or you can hook up to a laptop and trigger it and also have the picture capture right to hard drive.

I was in the same boat. Last used Media 100 8.2.3a in Tiger and have been a Media 100 user since Ver. 3.0. Since have switched to Final Cut Pro and while it took a few days to get acclimated, I don’t think I could go back. You can just do more in FCP and it better integrates with the other Studio apps. So I have no complaints. I have edited four films since I’ve moved to FCP shot in 35mm or Sony F900 cameras and the stuff looks great and no sync issues.
