Old 1Ghz G4: Enough juice for FCP6?
We have 2 old G4’s (a 1Ghz and a 1.25Ghz. Both with 1GB RAM) that we still run FCS1 on everyday (save for Motion of course).
The requirements for FCS2 say that you need at least a 1.25Ghz G4 to run ALL APPLICATIONS. Now I know that these older Mac won’t be able to even come close to running Motion, and Color, but what about just plain old Final Cut, Livetype, Soundtrack, and Compressor?
Apple’s site does not specify what Final Cut 6, Compressor, Livetype, and Soundtrack need.
We only have 1 G5 and to justify buying the upgrade I need to proove that at least Final Cut 6, etc will work on these older machines.

Don’t really have any real information on this. My Quicksilver 2002 dual 1.0 GHz machine sets at FCP 5.1.4. When Apple states that a minimum machine is 1.25 GHz it may mean as it did when Motion first appeared, that you can’t even load any of FCS2 on a machine slower than that?
I may experiment later on but not expecting anything positive.

I have the FCStudio 2 suite on my old trusty dual 1 gig G4. Lots of warnings, but everything working ok. I have upgraded my video card so I could run Motion a year or so ago.
Still chugging along!

I have a G4 Dual 1.42 Ghz with a Radeon 9000 Pro. After spending 2 days on the phone with Apple and running all kinds of test with clean installs of system etc. Final Cut Pro 6 cannot run with this video card. Compressor, DVDSP and Livetype can. Also, obviously Motion and Color cannot.

It was the card. Got hold of a Radeon 9700 Pro and now Final Cut Pro 6 launches fine. In the end you can’t use a 9000 Pro.
