Are you better off to bring it in Compressor and use the advanced conversions first to “NTSC Anamorphic” and then once you have the new NTSC Anamorphic MOV file bring this back into Compressor and make 16×9 MPEG2?
In other words, does a two step process give you a cleaner image instead of doing it all in one step?
This is the way I usually do it and it looks really clean on the final 16×9 DVD.

I’ve used both FCP 5.1.4 & FCP 6 to export to Audio OMF. Both versions include all the media– audio files. You don’t need any third party plugins to facilitate this, and you don’t have to use Media Manager to gather media.
Make sure all the audio tracks are turned on. If you disable a track it won’t be included in the OMF.
Also if it is a long program over 2 Gb limit. It is better to export by a selected range (emulating reels if you think of the film metaphor), than by breaking it down in tracks.

It is the “~” character. It is an illegal character. I had the same problem too. Just delete that preference and it will clone, at least with SuperDuper!
For some reason CS3 makes multiple pref files of the same preference with the ~, sometimes it doesn’t. You should only have one pref file with that name, the other ones with the ~ are temp prefs that should be erased at quit, I suspect, but for some reason don’t get erased.

I had a similar issue. Did an edit in 5.1.4 when I opened it in FCP 6 it was all out of sync. A call to Apple tech said they heard of this before but it was happening to too small a number of people to really be a problem for Apple. That’s all they told me and gave no solutions.
6.0.1 fixed it a little but I’m now I’m back to working off a SuperDuper! clone on a firewire drive of my HD before I updated to FCP 6 to finish the project in 5.1.4. Can’t recommend more highly cloning before updating a working system.

Rendering, what rendering? If I blink I miss it and think I didn’t do it. It is that fast.

But with most PDFs can’t you just use the text tool in Preview, select all, copy and paste into a text document? I know it is a work around but this should work.

So I upgraded to FCS 2 from FCS1. I edited a film last year in FCP 5.1.4 and never heard from the client again. I did get paid so the project sat on my hard drive. It was shot with Sony F900 and delivered to me as DVCAM QuickTimes (each tape was a large QT file not individual takes). The edit went smoothly.
FCP2 came out. All other projects were completed so I upgraded (not before making a Clone with SuperDuper! to a FW drive with OS X 10.4.8 and FCS 1).
Then I hear from this client. They want to do a title sequence and finish the film. I make a back up of the project file in the event I need to go back to FCP 5.1.4 because I know FCP 6 will update it. FCP 6 updates the project and now every cut is off. Everything is out of sync I see slates where they shouldn’t be it is a total mess.
Boot from my clone and open the project and all is well so I export an XML. Boot into current drive with OS X 10.4.9.1.0 and import the XML into FCP 6. It is still all offset.
I don’t have a capture card as I cut narrative and 9 time out of 10 I don’t have to digitize. So it is not a driver issue.
Any ideas why the whole cut would be off? Apple tech support doesn’t know and had no answers– said they only heard about this maybe 3 times.
But if this is an issue, how does one say cut in FCP 5.1.4 and finish somewhere else in FCP 6 and send to Color? If the cut gets all mucked up?
Any suggestions?

June 26, 2007 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Strange behavior after upgrade from FCP 5.14 to FCP 6Yes I did this as a reference so I can re-sync everything but there are hundreds of cuts and it is not sound mixed or color corrected, so it would be nice if they were individual clips in the timeline not one big clip.
