Blue Ray and HD DVD
Posted by Mark Dannunzio on September 7, 2007 at 3:47 pmHello,
does anyone know what the latest is with Blue Ray and HD DVD when it comes to FC Studio 2? Do you know what Mac will decide on in the near future?
Thanks,
Mark

If anyone does no this they cannot talk about it, especially in a public forum. Anything you will hear is speculation. My guess they will support both, there is already limited support for HD DVD but the authoring level is no where complete and it is more of a way to build closed HD DVD titles that playback on a Mac. IMO
BTW – this really is only a DVDSP question since both of these are a DVD delivery format.

September 7, 2007 at 4:14 pmBluRay support is supposed to be added with Leopard.
We just installed a FastMac BluRay burner and are using Adobe Encore to author. It all works a bit clunky right now, but it does work and the end result is stunning.

September 7, 2007 at 4:56 pmIs it true that manufacturers are blocking support of recordable HD discs on their players?

How is Encore working out for you? I thought I remembered you saying that you weren’t 100% pleased with it. Also, does it support any of the advanced features of the spec (RT composited menus w/ bitmap overlays, etc.)?
We got Roxio’s DVD IT Pro which runs in XP via Bootcamp to do our first Blu-ray. Because of the software, it’s basicly going to be a DVD on a BD with HD assets, but it’s what we can do for now.

It’s decent, not all that reliable yet. We still have to use Toast to actually burn a disc as Encore crashes everytime we try to burn one with it.

We’re only doing very basic menus at the moment.

There is no Apple Software to allow you to author BluRay at this time.
You will have to purchase Adobe Encore to truly author a DVD right now. Toast offers some very basic authoring, but not that good.
We use compressor to do the MPEG-2’s and then send to Encore.
