  • I always assumed this was coming. Just surprised it wasn’t polished from the get go. What confuses me is why did they HAVE to release FCPx now? Sure everyone was tired of FCP, but the people who are most tired of FCP and it’s slow architecture are people who can’t use FCPx without proper I/O tools. Why not release FCPx in 3-6 months with all these nice features and great fanfare? It feels as if they’re suffering at least some bad PR right now.

I believe they lifted the media blackout on the beta because they think it’s pretty darn close to coming out. So hopefully it’s soon!

The channel mixer is awesome for black and white! And everyone coming off of color will really like their curves back. I’ve also made some nice grain in after effects on grey – bring that into Resolve in Overlay mode, and I can pretty much control the intensity by applying contrast to the layer. It’s great fun!

Sascha, how are your experiences with the de-noiser? So far I still take things back to NeatVideo for serious denoising work.

Just wanted to drop this here:

    https://barefeats.com/wst10g11.html

Shows some comparison on Resolve rendering between GPUs, however, they don’t state their full setup (not sure if they’re setting up the tested cards as 2nd GPU alongside another, or running just 1 GPU).

Well, if Wikipedia is to be believed:

“OpenCL provides parallel computing using task-based and data-based parallelism. It has been adopted into graphics card drivers by both AMD/ATI (which made it its sole GPGPU offering branded as Stream SDK) and Nvidia, which offers OpenCL as equal choice to its Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) in its drivers.”

So you’re in luck there. As far as whether it’ll use the 285 with no screens attached – no idea. The way I have my station set up, is my grading monitor is also connected via HDMI as a second monitor, on an HDMI switch. When I’m conforming/editing/finishing, it’s on computer mode, giving me 2 screens. When I switch input back to the decklink, it’s good to go for Resolve. Not sure if this setup will work for everybody, but it’s pretty versatile for non dedicated stations.

Once a slider is selected (highlighted blue), you can use the mouse scroll wheel to change the value. That’s the best way I’ve found to make fine adjustments.

That being said, I would love it if all slider values could be entered numerically as well, and if all curves boxes had some sort of zoom precision mode for really fine tuning.

I wonder what CPU will go into this. From my reading the next gen chips everyone was expecting are scheduled to only appear in Q4 of this year, which would make August early for them. Perhaps it’s a clock speed bump along with new form factor and thunderbolt? I can see Apple having incentives to put Thunderbolt in all its products as fast as possible so they can start massing peripherals that support it.

As for more PCI slots – would be great but I will remain skeptical and not get my hopes up.

Feature film DPX is a hefty chunk of data. If your assistant is not doing any grading work maybe you can just set up a VNC connection to your studio? That way you can keep all the footage on site.

Do you mind posting a few lines from the EDL? Keen eyes might spot problems easier that way

Sounds like your project was setup as 24fps.

If you’re working with 59.94 footage, your “Timecode calculated at” should be set to 60, video monitoring to 59.94, and playback framerate to 30.

Unfortunately I don’t think you can change the timecode framerate while there’s a master session in a project. You might have to start a new one and use ColorTrace to transfer grades
