I wonder what CPU will go into this. From my reading the next gen chips everyone was expecting are scheduled to only appear in Q4 of this year, which would make August early for them. Perhaps it’s a clock speed bump along with new form factor and thunderbolt? I can see Apple having incentives to put Thunderbolt in all its products as fast as possible so they can start massing peripherals that support it.

As for more PCI slots – would be great but I will remain skeptical and not get my hopes up.

Well, the Windows7 base is excited — Sandy Bridge will definitely speed up their gaming-and-download experiences.

There was some wacky speculation about ditching the 5.25 optical drive/bay and slimming the case down.
But probably someone is ‘lion’ to us. But then again… the OS and maybe even the rest of the system may just eventually repose in the CLOWD and when was the last time you used a 3.5″ floppy? What would be difficult about imbedding a “Safe” boot firmware partition — so that if the whole system kacked you could at least limp into the App Store or your Time Machine to put it all back together? I thought that was heading in the direction of one of the big Lion features. Ha! Use your iPad as a lifeboat like the LEM in Apollo XIII.

So definitely the external BluRay burner goes on the shopping list….

You mean “Old Ben”? Ben Kenobi?

The external SSD with a total clone of the system is in the shopping cart already 🙂

Some more rumors to mull over:

I’d take a giant motherboard over more processors though
